What they share is that they do not hold the internal climate passively but measure it continuously and correct it actively.

That difference is not cosmetic. Where a classic humidor depends on how much moisture the cedar happens to release, an electric humidor corrects the moment a reading drifts. For anyone ageing cigars over years, that is the difference between a collection that develops and one that flattens.

What active climate control does

An electric humidor measures humidity and temperature, compares them with the set value and corrects. How finely it does so varies by series:

• More precise than passive: humidity stays within a narrow band around the set point instead of drifting with the room.
• PID versus P control: simpler models correct on the deviation itself; the Raching MON series also weighs the rate and the accumulated deviation, so the climate overshoots less and recovers faster.
• Measurement at several points: the MON series reads at seven places inside the cabinet, so local differences do not go unnoticed.
• Reading without opening: humidity and temperature appear on an external display, so the door stays shut — every opening disturbs the climate.
• Air treatment: odour and ammonia removal keep the air clean, so cigars take on no foreign aromas and the ammonia released during ageing is carried off.
• Spanish cedar: lined with Spanish cedar here too, which buffers moisture and deters tobacco beetles.

Maintenance and consumables

Models with a membrane filter need attention every quarter: replace the filter and refresh the distilled water. The MON series works without a membrane filter and has no such interval. Replacement filters for the C, MA and S-shape systems are under Filters & maintenance.
